The Word on the Weather

A tornado touches down in the Out-back of Australia...

We have now entered into the Queensland Storm season and although most thunderstorms just bring brief heavy rain and moderate winds, 5-10% of all Queensland thunderstorms are classified as severe.
These super cells bring damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes and flash flooding to our region. Every year they injure and kill people as well as destroy crops and homes.
People often wonder why a God as wonderful as ours would allow dangerous thunderstorms. There is no simple answer for each event, especially if someone is badly hurt or killed.
But the Bible says that all of nature groans for God's redemption. Rom 8:19 - 22 "For all creation is waiting patiently and hopefully for that future day when God will resurrect his children. For on that day thorns and thistles, sin, death, and decay--the things that overcame the world against its will at God's command--will all disappear, and the world around us will share in the glorious freedom from sin which God's children enjoy. For we know that even the things of nature, like animals and plants, suffer in sickness and death as they await this great event."
Nature is a little out of whack as a result of sin after Adam and Eve rebelled against God. God has made a provision for us in His Son Jesus Christ as our redeemer for all who will believe in Him and His work on the Cross.
Yet even dangerous storms can give us a hint of God's awesome power. God gives mankind the knowledge and ability to predict dangerous weather patterns so we can protect ourselves. This is just another one of His many provisions for us.
